As we set off on our six week, 4,800 mile journey, we bring you some of our participants stories about what’s motivating them to take part.

Meet some of the 2020 Moo-ve it team

We launched this challenge to bring our global team together and are delighted to be starting with 40+ people taking part. As we’ve been gearing up to get started, a few of the team members have shared their own individual goals and motivations for getting involved. We’ll be checking back in with them as the challenge progresses!

Andrew Savill (Orkney)

In Sept 2019 I virtually cycled 200 miles for Cancer Research UK ‘Cycle 200’. It was good fun, pushed my fitness level, and raised over £700 for a good cause.

The individual challenge was great but what I am looking forward to with Kyloe's Moo-ve it Challenge is that it’s an accumulative effort from everyone involved – knowing I need to pull my weight on the team so that we can reach our goal will be motivating me to make sure I hit my targets!

As with a lot of people, lockdown affected my mental health and I want to use this challenge as a springboard into feeling healthier. Physically, I’d like to lose some fat and build some muscle – I’m aiming to on average cycle 5km+ a day and workout with weights 3+ times a week.

I’m looking forward to it but also nervous. I found lockdown quite isolating so it’s great to be working as part of a team but with the distance being almost 5,000 miles it's not going to be easy!

Lee Whitaker (Sydney)

I love being challenged – from 30-day plank challenges, to Tough Mudder (and lots more in between), I’ve taken part in quite a few and find reaching an end goal really rewarding.

Pre-COVID I was really active and doing lots of gym classes but that’s not possible at the moment – being at home all the time was fun to start with but six months on the novelty has worn off and I’ve developed some bad habits that I’d like to change.

I’ve set myself a mini goal of 50km a week. To help me reach this I’m planning to do a mixture of walking, hiking, running, and sea swimming. I’m really lucky to live by the beach and in such a naturally beautiful area – there’s also a lake, national parks, and cliff walks – the stunning scenery it helps to take your mind off the fact that you’re exercising!

We’ve missed so many opportunities to get the Kyloe team together this year – I’m really looking forward to working together as a company-wide team. Knowing that my colleagues in Orkney might be battling against the elements means I have no excuse for not going out because of a bit of rain!

Catherine Waters (Orkney)

My goal is to get moving again – I’d like to establish lasting habits. I’ve put on some weight during lockdown and I’d also like to lose that - this challenge has come at the perfect time.

I’m an early riser – I have cats and chickens who I get up to feed each morning and there’s a chunk of time between that and starting work that I could be using better. I’m planning a 2-mile walk each morning and also longer walks on weekends. I moved to Orkney just over 18 months ago and there’s still so much I haven’t explored!

I did a lot of sea swimming last year and depending on how things go I might get back into that again. The water is freezing and feels fantastic despite the initial shock – it’s so invigorating and gives me the biggest rush!

I’m excited and optimistic about the challenge; it’s giving me the push to do something again and now I’m sharing my story with you there’s no going back!

Paul Sabatino (Chicago)

With my wedding just around the corner (November), I’m already in a bit of a fitness routine as I’ve been working to shave off a few extra lbs before the big day!

My routine right now consists of regular runs and walking 12.5k steps a day – as I’m based from home, I like to take a walk before starting my day as a ‘commute’ which helps me to segment the day from a mental standpoint. I also have an adorable dog (Lincoln) who demands enough walks each day to help me to hit those steps.

To help me burn some extra calories, I’ll be using the Peloton I purchased at the start of the year a bit more. My Fiancé and I have also been taking ballroom dancing lessons in the run up to our wedding which really helps to break a sweat - so I’ll be logging that too.

I’m excited to have a goal put in front of us and to see how we progress as a group over the next few weeks. I’m pretty confident we can hit the finish line!
