LM: We’re now a year into when COVID-19 changed the world - what are the main challenges for executive search firms that you anticipate for the next year?
PH: People have gotten used to new ways of interacting – meetings that might have involved a dinner or drinks before are now being done over a Zoom call. This has made connecting with people quicker and easier, but on the flipside its harder to pick up on the non-verbal cues - like body language - that help us have meaningful interactions and in turn build quality connections.
One of the things that firms need to prepare for is for talent to not want to go back to the old ‘face to face way’ of doing things. It’s so important to consider how they can continue adapting to give the best output with the resources available. Machine learning and AI could be really helpful here – it might not be able to replace the human elements, but it can enrich the details and evaluate candidates and companies with incredible precision.
