Ever knocked on your neighbour’s door to ask for the typical cup of sugar, a toilet roll or a favour? Not everyone has the courage to do this. Especially in a busy city, like Amsterdam or London, neighbours find it harder to reach out to ask for help. That’s why in 2012 a group of Amsterdam Locals set up Burennetwerk.
Burennetwerk is a Dutch charity, bringing neighbours together from all over Amsterdam. Charities heavily rely on the input of others, but Burennetwerk even more so relying on people's services and availability. Burennetwerk is Dutch for ‘neighbours network’, which is the essence of what they do: bringing together neighbours who need and can offer help. This varies from the odd job around the house to a visit for a coffee to fight loneliness.
When Burennetwerk was established in 2012 they started using a CRM and website. But after multiple years, both the website and the functionality of the CRM was outdated. As the organisation was growing rapidly they needed a matching system that fit their specific situation and was easy to manage.
The platform that ticked all the boxes was Bullhorn, but before they could go live their old data had to be migrated. One of the issues that had to be tackled was changing the recruitment specific CRM so that it was a system that specifically worked for a charity. Because Burennetwerk did not have any in-house experience of to do such substantial project, Kyloe stepped in to collaborate with Bullhorn and other platforms and make this project a success.
“During my weekly phone calls with Amy we worked on adapting the Bullhorn system to our needs and prepared the data migration from Otys. Especially adapting the Bullhorn system to our specific needs was a challenge for us, as it is not easy to change a recruitment system into a volunteer-matching system” said Wanda Huinink, Project Coordinator at Burennetwerk
Just before the migration was due, a set of compulsory changes were necessary to make the system function as required. “Alexa and Timo of Bullhorn assisted with final changes that proved to be essential for our Bullhorn system to work for us. Luckily Kyloe was able to process these last-minute changes in time for the migration. We were very grateful for the flexibility of Kyloe in those days, as our additions and changes were really last-minute and needed quite some extra hours from Kyloe!”
In July 2017 Burennetwerk’s Bullhorn went live. The collaboration between both Kyloe and Bullhorn helped Burennetwerk save time and increased efficiency. The volunteers are now able to more easily find the right match for neighbours.
“Our Burennetwerk helpdesk employees tell us they are happy with Bullhorn for two reasons. Most importantly the process of finding the most suitable good neighbour to match a request for help is more efficient. This saves us a lot of time and energy. Secondly the system itself is very easy to work with, which saves us time in explaining it to new colleagues and interns.” Said Wanda.
