Read time: 2 minutes
We've researched some of the things that put your clients off, and how you can overcome these to ensure your CVs get the attention they deserve. These may seem familiar; as recruiters you probably dislike these (or similar) things too, yet they still seem to be common bugbears, so its’ worth taking a few minutes to check how your CVs compare.
Turn-off 1: Quirky formatting
Recruiters will be familiar with the weird and wonderful formatting of CVs that have become popular in the past few years, and how difficult it can be to trawl through this type of CV. These layouts make look good, but they’re likely to annoy your clients – a traditional chronological format will make their job far easier.
Turn-off 2: Hidden information
There’s a balance to be had between quirky and bland. Part of a recruiter’s role is to make the relevant information as easy to find as possible, yet we still hear of clients complaining that they have to really search CVs to find what they’re looking for. If you can’t find the most important details after a 5-second scan, you might want to rethink your layout – consider bolding job titles and years, and using bullet points to break up the information.
Turn-off 3: Bad fonts
Inconsistent and hard to read fonts are another common complaint and may even be a distraction to those reading it. Standard fonts such as Arial and Times New Roman are always ‘safe’ options that will help the reader focus on the important stuff.
The easiest way to improve your CVs
By introducing a template that all of your recruiters use you’ll not only add a professional polish to your CVs and get rid of any well-meant but unwanted ‘creative’ additions, it will also improve brand recognition of your company!
Relying on people formatting documents might not always give you the results you want; even if you’ve supplied a template, the formatting step can add extra time to the process, and delay getting documents out of the door.
With Kyloe AwesomeDocs (our end-to-end document management system, designed with recruiters in mind), you can automate and streamline how you format and share CVs (and other documents).
The automated CV formatting functionality removes the need for manual formatting – by pre-loading your own templates (complete with your logo and brand colours) you can create CVs from any entity in Bullhorn, in a matter of clicks, not minutes. It also allows you to anonymize candidate documents before sending.
The above is just a quick summary of what Kyloe AwesomeDocs can do; there are lots of other features, including DocuSign, and it works on documents of all types, such as contracts, terms of business, and non-disclosure agreements.
