It’s a total cliché but my role varies wildly from one day to the next; there’s no ‘typical day’
I’m responsible for promoting Kyloe to our target audiences in Europe, the US, and APAC, in order to support our sales teams in growing our business. Examples of things I’m working on right now include: reviewing how we package and sell our products, planning our presence for events we’re attending in 2020 in Sydney, Austin, and London, creating an email campaign to communicate our latest product updates, working with clients to create case studies, and writing scripts for our website chatbot ‘Magnus’.
I’ve adapted my transferable skills to fit with what Kyloe needs
I’ve worked in marketing since graduating from uni in 2007, the majority of which has been in B2B marketing. I didn’t have recruitment industry experience before joining Kyloe but I previously worked in the investment banking industry and as part of this I marketed various FinTech initiatives (such as electronic trading, AI, machine learning); so many marketing skills are transferrable, and many of the concepts used in FinTech marketing also apply to recruitment technology.
There is so much more to the recruitment industry than I realised!
Everyone gets industry training when they start at Kyloe, and this was so helpful. There's lots to learn and I always enjoy working on case studies with clients as it helps me to really understand the issues they face, and that in turn helps me to communicate our value proposition in a way that is relatable to them.
As a global company headquartered in the Orkney Islands, Kyloe has something quite special going for it
Marketing jobs don’t come up often in Orkney; I grew up here and the prospect of moving back whilst being able to keep my career was something I just didn’t think would ever happen. I feel very fortunate to be working for such a forward thinking, growing, company and be able to have a relaxed pace of life outside of work at the same time.
My advice for someone looking to join Kyloe?
A lot of the people now working at Kyloe didn't have the opportunity to put their talents into practice in the past, simply because of a lack of relevant jobs. As long as you have the interest, work experience isn’t always needed! Stay curious, and keep learning, even if your current situation doesn’t require it, because you never know what opportunities will arise.
